Karla graduated in 2015 with a degree in performing arts and has since continued her training in Meisner-based acting techniques with Scott Williams (Impulse Theatre Company), finding great joy in the freedom and connection the method offers. Over the years, she has built a diverse body of work, including short films, television productions, commercials, training films, radio, voice-over work, and photographic projects. Karla is deeply committed to bringing truth and authenticity to the characters she portrays and is always seeking to expand her skills and knowledge.
While she has worked across various mediums, Karla has recently focused on screen work, earning recognition as part of the Best Cast team for Thanks for Coming at the Lights Canberra Action Film Festival. Her professionalism, ease with direction, and collaborative spirit have made her a sought-after talent in numerous films. Alongside her acting career, Karla is also emerging as a creator, writer, and producer, driven by a passion for complex, challenging roles—particularly those that portray women with identities that go beyond the traditional “mother” stereotype.
Karla’s latest project is a short film script, co-written with Daniel Berger-Alexander, that delves into the complex tension between science and humanity. The story weaves together a personal journey of illness, grief, and resilience, set against the rapid pace of scientific advancement. At its core, the narrative explores the ethical dilemma of modifying the human genome to eliminate genetic diseases from future generations, questioning what is right and wrong. Karla is currently working on additional projects that align with her filmmaking philosophy: creating compelling, multi-dimensional female characters at the heart of unique, thought-provoking stories.
